What to Wear for Spring Family Photos

Finally, the warm spring season that you have been eagerly waiting for is here and you are ready to plan for your family photo session. After a few phone calls and emails back and forth, you are able to finalize the date and time that works for everyone and book your session with your photographer. Now comes the bigger challenge, which is figuring out what to wear!

If you are having a hard time choosing the outfits that everyone is going to wear, let me help you with some ideas. However, before we start, one important thing to keep in mind is that you need to make sure everyone feels comfortable in his or her outfit. Because no matter how adorable the shirt looks on your little boy, if he can't get over that itchy tag feeling, you can forget about asking him to smile much less pose for you. And it is just not worth the battle, trust me! Keeping things simple and casual allows a relaxed and enjoyable setting for everyone.

1. Pick a Color Scheme

How are you planning to use the photos? If you plan to use them to create wall arts for your home, then you will need to consider the colors of your wall and furnitures, then choose a color scheme that works. If you are making a memorable gift for a family member or a friend, you will consider their home for the colors instead.

2. Start With One Statement Piece of Clothing

Once you decide on the color scheme, you will begin by picking out a statement piece of clothing that you most definitely want to include in the photos. The one piece of clothing will be the base for you to coordinate the rest.

3. Don't Match Do Coordinate

In my first of the three examples below, I first picked out the mom's floral skirt because I really liked the minted green and the bright yellow, I thought a combination of which works wonderfully for spring. Next, I chose everyone else's outfits by coordinating either one of the two colors. I was able to find a solid minted green shirt for the dad, a bright yellow top for the girl and a pair of solid minted green shorts. The last step is really just a matter of finding simple pattern and neutral colored clothing to complete the outfits. Blue, white, grey and tan are your friends! Lastly, please don't forget about the shoes and cute accessories!
