Newborn Photography PART 2 of 3: The Best Time to Book Your Newborn Session

By now, you know what style of newborn portraits you like and you might even have a few photographers in mind. (If not, you can refer to the part 1 of this blog series HERE.) But when is the best time to book the session? How far in advance should you schedule for the session?

I recommend my clients to schedule their newborn session 10-15 days after birth. Because during the first two weeks of your baby's life, he or she spends most of the day sleeping, which allows the flexibility to capture the adorable and perfectly posed shots. Even with the frequent feeding schedule, the baby can usually be put back to sleep quickly. Another reason for this specific time frame is that it gives the mom a little more time to recover after the delivery, and for you, the family and the baby to get used to the new routines. There are just so many new things to get used to: sleepless nights, frequent diaper change, friends and families's visits, etc.

However, if all possible you should contact the photographer about booking your session at least a month or two in advance to make sure his or her schedule is open for the time block you are looking for. You don't do want to call at the last minute only to find out that the photographer is all booked up, which unfortunately happens quite often.

So what does this whole scheduling process look like? Let's say you contact me to inquire about booking a newborn session a month before your due date. I will let you know if my schedule is open. I only book a limited number of newborn sessions so I can guarantee your booking before we are able to decide on a specific date. In the meantime, I will follow up with you via emails discussing the details or logistics. Then, soon after the baby's arrival, you will contact me to finalize the date.

Hopefully this post clarifies some of your questions regarding the timing for booking a newborn session. If you have any other questions, feel free to Contact Me! And in the part three of this series, I will go over what you can expect in a newborn shoot.
