Back to School: 10 Tips on What to Wear for Kids Headshots

If you are planning to take some back to school photos of your kids at home this year, here are 10 quick tips on what to wear for better kids' headshots.

10 tips on what to wear for kids headshots

1. Clean, ironed, pressed or wrinkle-free

Set aside the clothes that you pick out in advance and get them cleaned and ironed. Although you don’t need expensive designer clothes to produce quality photos but you do need to make sure to rid of those distracting and unflattering wrinkles and stains.

2. Neutral or earthy colors

Really, you can't go wrong with neutral and earthy colors. They are especially great when used as base colors.

3. Fun and bright colors

Incorporate some bright colors can make your photos pop. Try to match a few pieces of clothing to match or compliments the eye color of your child. If your child has blue or green eyes, think of the colors of the sea. Whereas for kids with brown eyes, greens, purples, golds, and oranges work really well.

4. Avoid black

While you can be creative with colors, it is best that you stay away from wearing dark black, which can make the images look dull and flat.

5. Avoid neon colors or shiny textures

Neon colors and anything with shiny textures are distracting.

6. Avoid busy patterns or graphic t-shirts

Busy patterns and graphics are another no no, because they steal away the focus of the image. Our human eyes naturally are drawn to them instead on the person's face.

7. Keep the style simple

Each year, there is a new trend for clothing. In order to create images that are timeless and never go out of style, the easiest way is to keep the style simple. Simple solid colored shirts, simple necklines and less buttons or frills.

8. Only few Accessories

I am not totally against adding adorable accessories. In fact, I think incorporating a few small accessories is a great way to add a pop of colors in your images. But I recommend that you incorporate only a few so the focus can stay on your child.

9. Comfort is priority

Out of all the tips, this one is the most important in my opinion. Choose clothing that your child feel comfortable in, especially if you have a child who is very sensitive and picky about what they wear. Try layering if you are only limited to a certain shirts your child is willing to wear.

10. Smiles

Lastly, the best thing your child can wear for the best headshot photo is his or her smiles!
